"Scott Matthew Tour Diary"

11.09.2009 Eindhoven - Flux-S Festival, Niederlande

Day one. First show done. It seems to always work this way that we somehow have the feeling that we have forgotten how to "do it".There is a strange absurdity to the touring life that takes a while to get back into.Once the first chord is struck it all falls back into place .In this instance it must have for we got standing ovations.(sorry to brag)NEXT.

12.09.2009 Tourcoing - Hospice d'Avrè, Frankreich

Day 2 and we are thankful for the relatively short drives between towns. Though today brings a new language and that means new miscommunication . It was such an early show that we had children in the audience. We all liked this added energy to the show. I refrained from singing nursery rhymes only because I don't know any in french
Oh and the food. AMAZING.

13.09.2009 Antwerpen - Trix, Belgium

On tour from day to day is a whole new original experience .
Tonight was a great one.
Wonderful audience (besides that one toothless guy that needed to tell me we were CRAP) wonderful wine, wonderful staff,
oh again the food. AMAZING. this over eating is getting dangerous.

14.09.2009 Bruxelles - Rotonde, Belgium

Arrived in Brussels with no drama. Easy. The venue "Botanique" was a treat. An old botanical glass house in which the glass tower had been converted into a performance space.
Met old friends, made new ones and the network of "good" people expands.
Oh and "Manneken Pis"?? What's with all the hype??

15.09.2009 Graz - PPC, Austria

Immediately after the show in brussels we had to load up the troops and head towards Austria; Graz.
The wine from the show and the hum of the road lulled us to sleep ( Thankfully except Jerger who was driving).
A few hours sleep at the very glamorous B&B hotel chain at 4am in the middle of nowhere and then "On The Road Again".
A rousing chorus of Hallelujah broke from the van as we pulled up tho the venue in Graz.
The seemingly endless journey had actually ended.
Weary eyed we made it through soundcheck and collectively decided we needed a beer, except Eugene who orderd a Pina Colada. WTF!!.
Show went wonderfully. A new game started in the audience, "GUESS THAT TUNE" as someone yelled "WHITE HORSE" as Marisol started the piano intro.

16.09.2009 Innsbruck - Weekender, Austria

6 shows consecutively. We are starting to feel the effects, though somehow we still find something to laugh about.
Innsbrook, I couldn't tell you anything about it except it's in Austria and we played at the "Weekender".
Even we follow the philosophy of "every show is important." We admit we were a little dissapointed that pre-sales were in the 20's. The surprise was pleasant when it was more than that....."THOUSANDS" an audience member shouted. Well, not quite, but we can dream.

17.09.2009 Salzburg - ARGEkultur, Austria

It is not very often we play in the venue as last tours.
This time we did. Arge Kultur is a wonderful performance space with kind and accomodating people.
It always makes a difference to have a grand piano, and after spending the afternoon in Mozart's house, playing anything else would have been criminal for Marisol.
Drinks with Marcos, the promoter and booker of the space, and we debated the name of his unborn child.
Unanimously, we decided that Rosalie was the go for a girl.

18.09.2009 Travel day to Martigny

Leaving early we set off for Switzerland to yet another repeat venue. Now this is where we get spoiled.
After 9 hours of driving (with a glorious stop for a glance at the lake in Montreux), we arrive and are greeted by Veronique, full of sweetness and light. We follow her car up an Alp.
Winding endlessly past cows and chalets, trees and lakes.  Carsick and elated we make it to her grandparents chalet. Quiet, peaceful and for the first time on this tour, I feel we can really relax and find our center. Our night was glorious with home made fondue and local red wine. We sang for our supper and had a very early night. Sweet dreams were had by all.

19.09.2009 Martigny - Les Caves du Manoir, France

We awake refreshed like in some commercial for a wonder drug.
Cow bells on the hill sing us a song like from a lost world.
We decide to go to the Champaux Lake. The band has an adventure and walked the circumference of the lake, then lunch outside. We grab our stuff from the chalet and down the mountain side to sound check. Then we realize we are low on fuel. A quick call to the sweet Veronique brings her to our rescue. We continue winding our way to the venue.
Small and beautiful with the feeling that everyone knows each other in the village.
The show went great and we danced after it with a Swiss journalist who put our moves to shame in his wheelchair.
Thank you Veronique for this wonderful experience.

20.09.2009 Luzern - Schüür, Switzerland

Above every circumstance with performing, the number 1 importance is sound.
Good sound = good show.
To feel supported by the sound and understood by the technition is key.
This we received in Luzern. Warm ,Spacious , Delicious sound made for our best performance yet on this tour.
Great audience.
Sand Kris Kristofferson songs backstage after the show and ordered extra wine.
Sam and I walked back to the hotel over the bridge content and light.

21.09.2009 Nuremberg - K4, Germany

Back in the road. Back to Germany.
Exhausted we lugged our luggage up 5 flights of the elorvatorless old lady hotel.
We arrive soon after at the venue to see they had decorated the stage with paper birds on a string wire. Sweet.
Sound check goes well until Eugenes Bass makes one last sonic scream before dying completely .
Our new band name became"panic at the venue"
A screw driver , A soldering iron and Flo performing emergency surgery and all was back to normal
Thank you to Thomas Supper and Flo for that .
It was as always great to meet and see our friends from Ortega guitars , and as before mentioned , Thomas has been a huge help in many ways.

22.09.2009 Geneve - Theatre de l'Alhambra, Switzerland

Another long but smooth drive back to Switzerland .
The venue is awesome. Large stage in a theatre with great sound and cool folks helping us.
During the show I was being heckled .It took a few shout outs about this and that before I realized it was my dear friend Kim from Australia and her loud English husband.
I totally had to restrain myself from leaving the stage and into their familiar arms.
This existence on tour is all about constant unfamiliarity .Which usually is fine with me until you place one of your best friends from childhood in Queensland Australia in your Audience in Geneva.

26.09.2009 Day Off Catania

Energy, Baroque decay, beauty that endlessly unfolds with every street, every corner, every espresso.
I am a child in awe.
I awake excited about the mysteries that await outside. So decide that more sleep is impossible and it is time to explore.
No map I was immersed into splendor. Literally loosing my breath.
That evening we went for dinner with my new friend Franco .
We walked through the town slowly. absorbing everything.
The convent where nuns have taken a vow of seclusion and only are made apparent once a year when the sing a hymn .
the Piazza Duomo
The ancient roman theatre.
Thank you Franco.
See you soon.

27.09.2009 Day Off - Travel Day to Montpellier and enjoy the pool!

28.09.2009 Montpellier - Rockstore, France

We may not have had a big crowd in this town but the small audience got to hear stadium sound in this venue. It was bold and loud. It seems a little out of place but we loved it.

At this stage i keep forgetting what language to say thank you in.

29.09.2009 Barcelona - ESP TV Show Anima, Spain

TV TV YAY.

This is our first time to be on this kind of talk show TV.

I think we pulled it of ok after having to cut our song down to 2 min 10 sec to fit the programs time format. It was a treat. The kind of thing you want to show your mother. oh that reminds me I should.

30.09.2009 Barcelona - Luz de Gas, Spain

The thing about spain is the passion. The outward showing of appreciation.

A small stage . the audience almost on top of us and it was beautiful.

we all were in this together. Though the sound was a little off we still managed to have a wonderful time because the audience seemed not to care.

Thanks to the sweet Mark who helped us with this show. After knowing we had a day off a few of us were in the mood to have some fun . drinking dancing even some flirting. Marisol has the best story but what happens in barcelona stays in barcelona.

01.10.2009 Barcelona - Day off, Spain

Total write off. hung over, tired. Hotel, Movies, Pizza .Seclusion.

02.10.2009 Madrid - La Boite, Spain

I like a diva head early in the morning to the fast train to take me the 2 hours to Madrid while the others drove the over 5 hours .

I had some radio spots to do early and also got to do an internet spot in the aquarium . I sand "ornament " while a manatee feed lettuce to its baby above me. it was glorious. The guy who was looking after us there gave us a quick and wonderful tour . Monkeys , exotic birds, piranhas.

So the audience at that nights show was electric. Amazing . We probably had the WORST venue experience of our performing life but I will focus on the LOVE. Oh madrid thank you for the love from the audience. safe to say I will NEVER return to that venue.

"Mickey und Benno auf dem MEINL GUITAR FESTIVAL - Feuertaufe der Ortega Challenger Bässe"

27.06.2009
